Items that should be in your vehicle during the winter.
Prepare for being stranded during winter conditions and have items in your car to
reflect that. One way to endure is to make sure that you have preparations for all bouts of extreme weather and to change items in your kit to reflect the seasonal changes. Those that live in northern climates will find themselves dealing with winter ‘related issues with their vehicles more so than in southern climates, but we should all prepare for emergencies in our vehicles.

□ 1. Collapsible shovel
□ 2. Windshield scraper and small broom
□ 3. Flashlight and spare batteries
□ 4. Battery powered radio with extra batteries
□ 5. Food and water for 3 days
□ 6. Extra winter layers – hats, socks, and mittens
□ 7. First aid kit with pocket knife
□ 8. Any necessary medications
□ 9. Blankets and/or bivvy bags (a collapsible bag made of weatherproof fabric that is used to provide shelter usually for a single person in the wilderness)
□ 10. Tow chain or tow strap
□ 11. Road salt
□ 12. Jumper cables
□ 13. Emergency road flares
□ 14. Fluorescent distress flag, brightly colored rag, or ribbon
□ 15. Snow chains
□ 16. Large tarp (9′ x 12′)
□ 17. Paracord or utility rope
□ 18. Fire starting kit
□ 19. Small bag of cat litter
□ 20. Knee pads and work gloves
□ 21. Waterproof boots or rubber boots
□ 22. Small hand towel
□ 23. Blue roll of shop towels
□ 24. Toilet paper
□ 25. Instant fire logs (at least 2 3-hour logs)
Optional:
□ Small camp stove and fuel
□ Container to boil water
□ Cups to make a hot drink
□ Instant coffee, soups, hot chocolate (this would be a real luxury)

 

VEHICLE EMERGENCY KIT
1. Flares

2. Booster cables

3. 15 ft. tow strap for 6,000 lbs

4. Flashlight with extra batteries

5. Pair of leather work gloves

6. Small tool kit including a knife

7. Duct Tape

8. Emergency blanket

9. First Aid Kit and manual

10. Tire Inflation Can (non-flammable)

11. Maps

12. Bottled water and non-perishable high energy food

13. Emergency poncho or rain coat

14. Small plastic tarp

15. Light weight nylon cord or rope

16. Clean towel

17. Container of Handy Wipes

18. Coffee can of sand or kitty litter (for tire traction)

19. Roll of toilet paper

20. Folding shovel

21. Folding campers saw

22. Wool blankets or sleeping bags (as room allows)

23. Small fire extinguisher
