Ensuring your home security essentially helps you to keep your family out of harm’s way. And that should be your number one priority in life. Unfortunately, due to many preventable and unpreventable occurrences, our homes can be very dangerous. Therefore it is important to learn how to keep our homes safer and more secure, whether from an accident or from an unfortunate burglary.
So let’s talk about your home.
More often than not, home security issues are something that any family can address from the beginning and prevent calamities such as injury or death. Consequently, the first step in enhancing your home security should be to identify the threats around you.
Ask yourself some basic questions. For example, is your neighborhood notorious for burglary? Have you had any incidents of fire or near fire at your house? Do you suspect any electrical faults in your home?
After you arrive at answers to these and many other important questions about the security of your home, you should have a better insight on what needs are to be done to make things better.
How do you know if your neighbor is a burglary haven? The best way is to ask your local police department. They should be the ones to tell you the sections and even streets where most burglaries occur. You might be surprised at some of the locations which you thought were always safe – if they can be hit then what about your home?
Be sure to lock all the doors and windows in your house but, to be even more secure, you should attach Door Alarms and Window Alarms to each area. A Motion Detector at the bottom of your steps is also a great idea because it notifies you that someone is trying to get upstairs and will give you a time to prepare. Immediately call 911 and get your family together while you wait for the police. Also, some of your neighbors will hear the alarm and that extra attention will make the burglar leave as quickly as possible.
One of the biggest risks to almost every house is fire. This is because we use so many things that can cause fire all around the house – smoking, stoves, heaters of any source, electrical problems, fireplaces and more. And don’t forget about outside the house with the barbecue and lighter fluid, not to mention all the clutter that can be left in the yard that can easily catch fire and spread.
To deter and correct some of these potential problems you should have a number of fire detectors as well as fire extinguishers throughout your house and teach your entire family how to use them. Too many people die because they weren’t shown how to use a fire extinguisher properly.
Be sure that all of your family knows what to do in case of a fire. Call your local fire Department – they will be glad to give you and your neighbors a class on fire safety.
Only one thing – most of us have had these classes in school and at work throughout our lives yet there are still many household fires that wipe out not only houses but also lives.
Please, LISTEN to the instructor this time and put it into practice so you won’t become a horrible fire statistic.
