Care Under Fire – Pt 1

MARCH PAWS reveiw

  1. Massive Hemorrhage: Address severe bleeding. This may involve applying tourniquets, direct pressure, or other measures to control bleeding.
  2. Airway: Ensure a patent airway. This involves assessing and managing the patient’s ability to breathe effectively. It may include interventions such as opening the airway, providing assisted ventilation, or inserting an airway device.
  3. Respiration: Focus on breathing. Assess and manage the patient’s respiratory status, addressing any issues with ventilation or oxygenation.
  4. Circulation: Evaluate and support the circulatory system. This may involve administering fluids, managing shock, and ensuring adequate perfusion to vital organs.
  5. Hypothermia: Prevent and address hypothermia. Trauma patients are at risk of hypothermia, so it’s essential to keep them warm.

The MARCH algorithm is designed to provide a systematic approach to trauma care, emphasizing the need to address life-threatening issues in a specific order. Each step is critical in managing trauma patients effectively.

It’s important to note that the MARCH algorithm is typically applied in emergency or combat situations, and the specific interventions may vary based on the resources available and the nature of the trauma
